  • Chairman Jonathan Boles
    Jonathan Boles

    Jonathan retired in December 2018 after a 30 year career with Siemens on the commercial and financial side. His last position was as Finance Director of their UK Wind business, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Limited. Prior to that he spent 3 years based in Hamburg, Germany as CFO of Siemens' EMEA Wind business. He previously worked in various Siemens Divisions including  Financial Services, Power Generation and Real Estate.  Jonathan was born and lives in East Devon and has a farm which he is focussing upon improving from an environmental and wildlife habitat perspective.

  • Managing Director Mark Clayton
    Mark Clayton

    Mark is Managing Director of Aardvark EM Limited, a commercially focused solutions provider in the technical environmental sector.

    Mark has extensive experience in project management, financial due diligence, technical due diligence, design and innovation as well as providing expert witness support to commercial and legal organisations in the UK and overseas. A career commercial environmental scientist, having over 25 years experience in the UK public and private sectors providing commercial environmental services and support to a wide range of clients with water and land based projects. He has supported major international programmes for UNDP/EP, UNIDO, World Bank and EU to deliver sustainable solutions in renewable energy, waste recovery, and water treatment.

    Mark also advises a number of investment and technology panels, sitting as a Non Executive director for four investment funds.

  • Director Nick Leaney
    Nick Leaney

    Nick is a qualified Chartered Surveyor with over 15 years of experience in the commercial property sector. He was previously with Strutt and Parker where he was a Partner in their commercial division based at Head Office. His areas of expertise lie in commercial & residential property advising landlords, developers and tenants on their occupational property and investment strategies.

    Nick heads up the company's sustainable development and renewable energy team providing expert advice for the property sector and is a qualified BREEAM for Offices Assessor.

    Part of Nick's role is to build on the important pivotal link between the property industry and the core environmental skills that Aardvark can deliver.

  • Director Alan Taylor
    Alan Taylor

    Alan is a Chartered Engineer with particular experience in the instigation, development and management of applied research and the demonstration of projects and programmes across technologies boundaries.

    He has worked with Aardvark since 2015 and has specific technical experience in the assessment and selection of technologies and as a project developer for bioenergy projects in the electricity generation and municipal services context. This experience has included the management of diverse projects and programmes, many of which have been delivered as collaborations or partnerships, where the successful understanding of the relationships between participants and external stakeholders can be vital in securing success. He is also experienced in the scoping and procurement of specific packages of research needed to support complex and novel consent applications in both the terrestrial and marine context.

  • Director Rachel Ness
    Rachel Ness

    Rachel is a professional infrastructure town planner with 25 years plus experience in securing planning permissions for renewable energy, waste management and airport development including for large scale nationally significant projects.

    Prior to joining Aardvark, Rachel headed up the planning teams at Cory Environmental and Covanta Energy, delivering multiple consents for energy from waste facilities, biomass plants, materials recycling facilities and landfills. This included one of the country's earliest Development Consent Orders which gave the go ahead for the Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility in Bedfordshire. Latterly Rachel was London City Airport's Director of Infrastructure Strategy and Planning for 7 years, delivering a new Airport Master Plan and planning permission for its £500m airfield and terminal expansion including the UK's first Digital Control Tower.

  • Principal Consultant Nicholas Johnn
    Nicholas Johnn

    Nick holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Consultancy and a BSc in Life Sciences.

    He has previously worked within commercial roles at Mars Chocolate UK, CHEP UK and Citigroup.

    Nick works primarily within the Carbon & Energy and Environmental Management teams; carrying out due diligence audits, permitting and environmental management systems work. He also supports the planning and development team advising on renewables and waste management. Nick is a Full Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment and a Chartered Environmentalist.

  • Associate Director Sara Ferretti
    Sara Ferretti

    Sara is a post graduate of International Relations with a specialisation in global carbon policies and negotiations, from the University of the Sacred Heart of Milan, Italy. She has previously worked as a researcher for an environmental NGO in Sydney, Australia, and as the Secretary General of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Latin America.

    Sara heads up Aardvark's London office and manages both the Carbon and Energy team on the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme and on voluntary GHG emissions calculation. Sara also works with the Planning and Development team on Applications for FiTs/ROCs/RHI, compliance with the WAMITAB Certification and with Ofgem sustainability criteria. 

  • Principal Consultant Kate Cantwell
    Kate Cantwell

    Kate is an experienced planning professional having worked in both the private sector, and all levels of local government, including a successful transition between UK and New Zealand planning systems. She applies a pragmatic and problem-solving mindset to decision making and enjoys the collaborative approach this profession requires

  • Senior Consultant Joanna Clayton
    Joanna Clayton

    Jo has a degree from Imperial College London in Environmental Science and specialises in linking natural capital with investment objectives, this ranges from habitat valuation through to the evaluation of local waste resources for onsite energy generation.

    Jo is an Affiliate Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment.

  • Senior Consultant Jon Pettitt
    Jon Pettitt

    Jon is a post-graduate of Sustainable Environmental Management, and a graduate in Geography from the University of Plymouth. He joined Aardvark as a graduate in 2010 and now heads up Aardvark's Environmental Management team, with particular focus on Environmental Permitting and compliance for a broad client-base across the waste, energy and food industries.

    He has previously worked at the Environment Agency, and had experience working in the voluntary sector for BTCV and for the Icelandic Environment Agency.

  • Consultant Ross Malton
    Ross Malton

    Ross holds a Geography degree from Bath Spa University. Previously he has worked with the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office in Bangkok to develop sustainable tourism in the region.

    Ross primarily works within the Carbon & Energy and Environmental Management teams advising on renewable energy schemes, carbon auditing and environmental permitting.

  • Consultant David Payne
    David Payne

    David has a Bsc Hons Degree in Renewable Energy Systems from the University of South Wales. Previous roles have included the Former Head of Maintenance at Sony UK Technology Centre, and being a part of the Process Improvements Team focusing on OEE. He also holds professional Advanced Omron Programming and Wiring Qualification.

    David works on design of schematics, databases and technical experience on projects. 

  • Office Manager and Accounts Assistant Nicole Orme
    Nicole Orme

    Nicole has completed AAT Level 2 in Accounting and Finance and is responsible for the day to day running of Aardvark HQ as well as assisting with the accounts department. Nicole was previously Office Manager at Western Fabrications Ltd.

  • Marketing/Administration Christina Dawkins
    Christina Dawkins

    Christina has a Law degree from Cardiff University. After graduating she moved to Nepal, where she lived for the next 10 years predominantly working within the adventure travel and charitable sectors. Christina then moved back to the UK in 2017 and is now supporting Nicole in the day to day running of the office.

  • Consultant Kate Stannard
    Kate Stannard

    Kate is from a farming background in Somerset, her passions and interests lie within eco environmental sustainability and development.

    Kate assists in data collection for both the Carbon and Energy team, on the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, and on voluntary GHG emissions calculations. She is also currently working with the data for ROCs and RHI, with Ofgem sustainability criteria.

  • Marketing / Administration Marianne Tomassi

    Marianne has extensive project administration experience from over 10 years work in the private sector with Strutt & Parker and Quintain Estates & Development Plc in London.

  • Researcher Claire Saunders

    Claire comes from a livestock farming and food industry background and, having run her own catering and food processing businesses, has developed a particular interest in understanding the practical benefits that can arise for land managers from the implementation of agri-environment schemes coupled with on-farm diversification.
