Flood Risk and SuDS Strategies

Aardvark is continuing to see increased flood risk consultancy work arising from the stricter interpretation by the EA of the guidance set out in PPS25 regarding development and flood risk.

In particular, local planning authorities are looking for calculations demonstrating that surface water run-off can be controlled as near to its source as possible with sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).

The SUDS approach to drainage incorporates a wide variety of techniques.  As a result, there is no one correct drainage solution for a site. In most cases, a combination of techniques will be required.  Thes may include controlling rainwater at source (green roofs, rainwater harvesting, permeable paving etc.), infiltration trenches, filter basins, swales, basins, ponds and wetlands.
